Hygrade Casting will be closed from 20th December 2024 and re-opening again 20th January 2025. Merry Christmas & Happy New Year!

Transparency & Fairness in Every Casting Run

We are redefining industry standards with a pricing model built on transparency, fairness, and precision.

  • Our service and metals fees are based on pay-upon-completion terms, this is non-negotiable, this ensures we maintain the most competitive rates in the industry. We account for market fluctuations in precious metal prices, base metal costs, and US/AUD exchange rates, providing stability in an otherwise volatile market.
  • For gold castings, we apply a tiered pricing structure at a flat per-gram rate above our daily metal cost (precious metal + master alloy cost), regardless of karat or colour because the time, effort, and consumables required remain consistent across all variations of gold.
  • Silver castings are charged using the same method as gold but at different rates. Our highly specialised Ultra-925 Silver contains 5% palladium, and we’re not in the business of subsidising silver losses by quietly inflating our gold pricing.

Understanding Our Pricing Tables

Our service fees are outlined in a series of detailed tables below. These have been structured to make pricing as straightforward as possible, covering approximately 95% of the jobs we handle. This allows you to get a reasonably accurate ballpark estimate for most jobs without needing to request a formal quote (ideal if you're still in the planning stage or just browsing options).

Wax Printing Fees: We keep things simple and fair. Rather than pricing by tiny wax weight differences, we offer set rates for most small and regular-sized items. This covers the majority of jobs. Larger items start from a base price and may require quoting for accuracy. Here’s a general guide to how we size wax prints:
Small Items: e.g. stud earrings, bails, small pendants (Footprint within a 5c - 10c coin)
Regular Items: e.g. standard bands, engagement rings, mid-sized pendants (footprint roughly 20c–50c coin)
Large Items: e.g. cocktail rings, thick signet rings, full eternity bands, large pendants (dimensions: approx. 3–3.5 cm height/width)
Extra-Large Items: e.g. thin bangles, bulky or oversized pendants (pricing increases with overall volume and dimensions)

If you’re unsure where your item fits, just ask, we’re happy to guide or quote accordingly.

Casting Fees: cover the full preparation process, including wax sprueing, tree assembly, flask setup, and investment, these costs are fixed per casting size.

Metal Processing Fees: We keep our metal pricing transparent. Instead of hiding costs within inflated metal rates, we separate all processing charges from the raw metal value. These fees cover all operational and material costs required to cast your gold or silver including: power, water, consumables, equipment upkeep to maintain precision and cleanliness, in-house master alloy production, scheduled refining every 5 trees to prevent grain growth and alloy degradation, full-time technical staff managing process controls and QC standards.

Note: The metal processing fees do not include the raw metal cost (this needs to be added on top of the daily metal prices). Daily market rates are listed in our Metal Prices tab (above).

Post-Processing Fees: Post-processing is completely optional. Service details can be found in the Post-Processing tab (above).

Dynamic Fee Calculation

We’re proud to offer Australia’s first dynamic fee structure, designed to deliver fairness, transparency, and the best possible pricing on every casting run.

Whether you send us 1 item or 100 across different colours and karats in a single casting day, we consolidate your total castings to maximise your savings. Metal processing fees are charged by total weight, while all other service fees are calculated per item based on quantity and sizing.

Example: 9 silver bangles (490g), 1 ring 18k white gold (10g) same day (total 500g), you’ll pay low volume casting fees (9 XL cast fees + 1 regular cast fee, at low volume), metal processing fees for both silver and gold will be charged at high volume rates.

Transparent & Competitive Pricing

All service fees are clearly itemised and kept separate from raw metal costs, no bundling, no hidden markups, and no inflated gold prices.

Our system ensures you see exactly what you’re paying for, from casting, metal processing and post-processing services. We also consolidate your daily castings to maximise volume efficiency, giving you access to high-volume rates where possible, even across mixed metals and karats.

This approach gives you cleaner and clearer invoicing, stronger margins, and full control over your production costs, whether you're need one piece or a full tray of castings, we provide you the best possible rates with unmatched dynamic flexibility.

Daily Raw Metal Costs

Our raw metal pricing is updated daily and remains separate from processing fees to ensure full transparency.

Unlike some businesses that manipulate pricing narratives, we provide real, up-to-date costs without selective adjustments. Many assume raw metal cost is just the spot price of gold they see online, but this overlooks the premium mark-ups charged by bullion and precious metal wholesale suppliers (where we must buy our precious metals from):

  • 3–5% premium charged above spot market rate for Gold Grain
  • 15-25% premium charged above spot market rate for Silver Grain
  • 15-25% premium charged above spot market rate for Palladium Grain
  • 20-30% premium charged above spot market rate for Indium Grain
  • 50-100% premium charged above spot market rate for Electrolytic Copper Grain
  • 50-100% premium charged above spot market rate for Electrolytic Zinc Grain

To eliminate ambiguity, we publish the accurate, total cost of each precious metal for all karats and colours on our website daily. We do the complicated math taking all the above into account and simply show you what the metal alone costs us for the day.

Weighing Process

Every cast item undergoes cleaning and ultra-sonic pickle bathing to remove all investment powder residue to ensure precise metal charges, you only pay for what you get. We use an NMI trade-approved scale with three-decimal-point accuracy to weigh each item.

  • Measurements are rounded to the nearest hundredth of a gram to 2 decimal points (e.g., 4.132g → 4.13g OR 4.135g → 4.14g).
  • If you request additional optional post-processing (e.g. Ultra Shine Finish), weighing is done after post-processing to ensure accurate metal charges (ie the 0.15grams of gold that is removed, is NOT charged on your invoice as we keep that gold and handle the refining), you are charged for the service.

Consolidation Policy

We do not consolidate multiple casting runs into a single invoice. For example, if you submit 50 pieces on Monday, 5 pieces on Wednesday, and 15 pieces on Friday, each batch will be invoiced separately based on its respective volume and timing.

If your business frequently fluctuates between our tiered pricing levels throughout the week, consolidating your casting submissions into fewer, larger batches may secure you the best possible rates.

Why We Don’t Play the Hidden Fees Game

At Hygrade Casting, transparency isn’t just a buzzword, it’s our standard. We don’t adjust our pricing based on competitor rates or use artificially low casting fees and "free-extra's" such as our Ultra-Satin finish to disguise higher metal charges. Instead, our pricing structure and service options ensures full transparency, with every cost clearly outlined, no second guessing, no negotiations and no backdoor pricing tactics.

Our metal fees (separate from raw metal costs) and our post processing service fees cover all operational costs, including:

  • Machinery wear and tear
  • Consumables and metal loss during casting
  • Occasional spike variation in final metal purity (e.g: 18.05 karat)
  • Waste disposal, utilities, admin, and wages
  • Other essential overheads to maintain a sustainable and profitable business

The New Benchmark in Casting Pricing

This is the industry standard you’ve been waiting forno hidden fees, no inflated margins, just transparency, precision, and fair pricing. If you value quality, accuracy, precision and transparency, this is the structure your business deserves.
