Transparency & Fairness in Every Casting Run

We are redefining industry standards with an extremely competitive pricing model built on transparency, fairness, and precision. We do not work on a percentage-based system when it comes to charging for metals. While the industry has long relied on this outdated model, we recognised its flaws: it’s vague, inconsistent, and designed to keep you guessing. Instead, we developed a transparent pricing structure that provides our clients the best rates across the country.

Metal prices go up, down, sideways, and back again, it doesn’t matter to us. We separate the daily raw metal price from our costs, then simply charge a fixed metal processing fee per gram above the cost of the daily raw metal prices. Simple. Honest. Exact. For those unfamiliar with our metal pricing system, our Metal Prices tab (above) includes clear breakdowns, examples and different formats (our method & the traditional method).

  • Tiered pricing: Our pricing tables are straightforward, we simply apply the appropriate tier based on your weekly volumes and post-cast metal weights.
  • Gold castings: We use a simple tiered pricing structure with a flat per-gram rate added on top of the daily metal cost (also known as the metal processing fee). Daily metal cost is calculated as precious metal + master alloy costs including the markups we have to pay to procure the metals.
  • Ultra-925 Silver castings: Our Ultra-925 Silver is charged using the same method as gold, though at lower rates. The reason our silver has a lower processing fee compared to gold is simple, it requires less time, energy, water, wear on our machinery and consumables. We don’t cast regular sterling silver and we are not in the business of casting silver at a loss by making up for it in the gold prices.

Our Pricing Tables Explained

Our service fees are outlined in a series of detailed tables below. These have been structured to make pricing as straightforward as possible, covering approximately 95% of the jobs we handle. This allows you to get a reasonably accurate ballpark estimate for most jobs without needing to request a formal quote if you are still shopping around.

Wax Printing Fees: We keep things simple and fair. Rather than pricing by tiny wax weight differences, we offer set rates for most small, regular & large-sized items. This covers the majority of jobs. Extra-Large items need to be quoted. Here’s a general guide to how we size wax prints:
Small Items: Stud earrings, bails, small pendants
Regular Items: Standard bands, engagement rings, mid-sized pendants
Large Items: Cocktail rings, thick signet rings, full eternity bands, large pendants
Extra-Large Items: e.g. thin bangles, bulky or oversized pendants/rings (pricing increases with overall volume and dimensions)

Casting Fees: Cover the full preparation process, including wax sprueing, tree assembly, flask setup, and investment, these costs are fixed per casting size for small, medium & large.

Metal Processing Fees: We keep our metal pricing transparent. Instead of hiding costs within inflated metal rates, we separate all processing charges from the raw metal value. These fees cover all operational and material costs required to cast your gold or silver including: power, water, consumables, equipment upkeep to maintain precision and cleanliness, in-house master alloy production, full-time technical staff managing process controls and QC standards.

Note: The metal processing fees do not include cost of the raw daily metal cost (the raw daily metal cost needs to be added on top of the metal processing fees). Daily market rates are listed in our Metal Prices tab (above).

Post-Processing Fees: Post-processing is completely optional. Service details can be found in the Post-Processing tab (above).

Dynamic Fee Calculation

We’re proud to offer Australia’s first dynamic fee structure, designed to deliver fairness, transparency, and the best possible pricing on every casting run. Whether you send us 1 item or 100 across different colours and karats per week, we will apply the appropriate tiered pricing breaks according to your volumes for the quantities and the appropriate metal rates according to the finished casted weight.

Example 1: If you have 100 small items that weigh 50 grams after casting, you will be invoiced Tier 5 rates for printing & casting fee's, whilst your metal rates will be invoiced at Tier 2 metal processing fee rates.

Example 2: If you have 10 extra large items that weigh 500grams after casting, you will be invoiced Tier 2 rates for printing & casting fee's, whilst your metal rates will be invoiced at Tier 5 metal processing fee rates.

Transparent & Competitive Pricing

All service fees are clearly itemised and kept separate from raw metal costs, no bundling, no hidden markups, and no inflated gold prices. Our system ensures you see exactly what you’re paying for, from casting, metal processing and post-processing services.

Daily Raw Metal Costs

Our raw metal pricing is updated daily and remains separate from our metal processing fees to ensure full transparency. Some people assume raw metal cost is just the spot price of gold they see online, but this overlooks the premium mark-ups charged by bullion and precious metal wholesale suppliers (where we must buy our precious metals from), furthermore it excludes the real world exchange rates between the USD/AUD. Below are the actual premiums we pay bullion and precious metal suppliers:

  • 3-5% premium charged above spot market rate for Gold Grain
  • 15-25% premium charged above spot market rate for Silver Grain
  • 15-25% premium charged above spot market rate for Palladium Grain
  • 20-30% premium charged above spot market rate for Indium Grain
  • 50-100% premium charged above spot market rate for Copper Grain
  • 50-100% premium charged above spot market rate for Zinc Grain

To eliminate ambiguity, we publish the accurate, total cost of each precious metal for all karats and colours on our website daily. We do the complicated math taking all the above into account and simply show you what the metal alone costs us for the day.

Weighing Process

Every cast item undergoes cleaning and ultra-sonic pickle bathing to remove all investment powder residue to ensure precise metal charges, you only pay for what you get. We use an NMI trade-approved scale with three-decimal-point accuracy to weigh each item.

  • Measurements are rounded to the nearest hundredth of a gram to 2 decimal points (e.g., 4.132g → 4.13g OR 4.135g → 4.14g).
  • If you request additional optional post-processing (e.g. Flush-Cut), weighing is done after post-processing to ensure accurate metal charges (ie the gold that is removed from flush cutting is NOT charged on your invoice as we keep that gold), you are charged only for the service.

Consolidation Policy

We do not consolidate multiple casting runs into a single invoice. For example, if you submit 50 pieces on Monday, 5 pieces on Wednesday, and 15 pieces on Friday, each batch will be invoiced on each day as the price of precious metals changes everyday.

Why We Don’t Play the Hidden Fees Game

At Hygrade Casting, transparency isn’t just a buzzword, it’s our standard. We don’t adjust our pricing based on competitor rates or use artificially low casting and printing fees and chuck in "free-extra's" such as Flush-Cutting to disguise higher metal charges. We refuse to work on a percentage based system for the metals as this method is flawed, instead, our pricing structure is built on flat rate charges, this ensures full transparency, with every cost clearly outlined, no second guessing and no backdoor pricing tactics.

The New Benchmark in Casting Pricing

This is the industry standard you’ve been waiting forno hidden fees, no inflated margins, just transparency, precision, and fair pricing. If you value quality, accuracy, precision and transparency, this is the structure your business deserves.
